IT LOOKS like a happy compromise has
been met over the issue of policing in
Sumner over summer (see page 1).
Sumner Community Residents’
Association, Redcliffs Residents’
Association and Linwood-Central-
Heathcote Community Board wanted police based in the
Sumner Hub – the old police station.
Sumner is swamped with people over summer and with that
comes problems. Having a permanent police base would act as
a deterrent, and also a quick response base to incidents.
But police have said no.
The old police station doesn’t meet their health and safety
standards apparently.
But police have said there will be a presence during the very
busy times and during major events.
Probably not a lot new in that, but the groups are happy with
the police response.
• The Draft Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor Regeneration Plan, with the primary purpose
of enabling short, medium and long-term uses of approximately 600ha of land within the
Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor, including the area previously known as the residential red zone.
• The Proposed Partial Revocation of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan and the
Proposed Partial Revocation of the Land Use Recovery Plan, which would, in combination
(if approved) result in the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor Regeneration Plan being the sole
