Staff ‘a bit shaken’
• From page 1
Fraser said the brazen theft left had left park staff a bit
shaken but it was great to get a “valued member of the
team” back.
Ferrymead Heritage Park management will be assessing
the damage to the ute and working with their insurance
company to get the vehicle back up-and-running.
The Toyota Hilux was recently named as the most stolen
car in New Zealand, according to finance firm MoneyHub.
Over the six-month period between May 1 and October 31,
171 Hilux utes were stolen around the country.
Mystery over report of missing boat
The search for a boat reported missing has been called off
with police believing no one was actually unaccounted for.
Emergency services were called by a member of public last
Thursday evening who said a small sailboat had been blown
out to sea at Boulder Bay near Sumner. Police search and
rescue teams, a helicopter and the Coastguard searched the
area, but nothing was found. Police said they hadn’t found
any information to suggest there was a missing boat.
Big fare rise possible
Canterbury may have $8 bus fares if a Government transport
request is followed. The NZ Transport Agency has asked
local authorities to boost private revenue in a bid to reduce
central and local government funding of public transport.
Currently bus fares are $2. Private revenue makes up 11.7
per cent of Environment Canterbury’s current operational
expenditure but NZTA wants the private revenue proportion
to rise to 38 per cent in the next three years.
