On Tuesday Mr Parsons will work with students, pupils and teachers from Sumner School, Our Lady Star of The Sea, Mt Pleasant Primary School, Linwood College, Heathcote Valley School and Redcliffs School. John Parsons He will then host a free workshop for parents at 7pm at Sumner School. “Typically parents think that they don’t understand how to talk to children about technology. We are just short of one year away from moving into our brand new school, which has only been made possible by the strength of this community. Has fighting against closure, navigating land swaps, and watching demolition got our children and families down? Quite the opposite. We have just completed one of the biggest and most exciting school fairs in the city. Our fair is so important to us – not only is it our main fundraiser, bringing in funds for the resources we need in the coming months, but it puts smiles on our children’s faces. Our school fair involves enormous commitment from many – from the staff team leaders through to people who bake cakes, donate goods and give their time before, during and after the fair itself. It’s exciting to think that in the coming year, we will be able to use some of these fair funds raised to enhance the playscapes in our new school. We’ve had a long road, and it’s hard to believe that our year 8 children were five when the June earthquake sent us from our school to our temporary location in Sumner. Fire rages, homes at risk Parliament on Tuesday last week. Our children talked of their experiences in the earthquake and their home away from home at Sumner and Van Asch. They talked of determination, love of their school and the resilience and perseverance they have learned watching the adults in their lives work so hard to return their school to Redcliffs. These children represent the eight years that have nearly passed since the February earthquake changed the landscape for our school (both figuratively and literally). They, and our current year 7 pupils, will not have the privilege of attending our new school, but they will forever be a part of it. I’d like to extend an enormous thank you to all in our community who have so relentlessly supported us. We’re very much looking forward to returning our school to Redcliffs again at the beginning of 2020.
