SPORTS
Sumner School pupils
in Years 5 - 8 had
a fabulous annual
athletics day recently.
They were involved in
high jump, discus and
long jump in the field
events, and both long
distance and sprint
races. Principal Stuart
Cameron said it was
great to see everyone
giving it a go. “Well
done to all of the
students who placed,”
he said.
Library needs you to fix it up with spare tools
Do you have tools you don’t
use any more? An old hammer,
a spanner, screwdriver or saw?
Then Project Lyttelton want
you to give them a call. The
non-profit group is building
towards opening its Library
of Tools and Things early next
year. It will be a collection of
specialised equipment that library
members can take home
on loan.
Members would pay an
annual subscription to use the
service.
Trevor Best, of Governor’s
Bay, is behind the project. He
wants to see more men and
women connect with their
communities by offering a
good selection of high quality
tools, while helping to cut
down on consumption.
Project Lyttelton co-manager
Lucette Hindin said it was hoping
to have all the main items
lines up a
shot put.
people use frequently. “Garden
tools, drills, saws, bike tools.
Perhaps also camping gear and
sewing machines.” She hopes
that some will come directly
from the community, while
others may be donated by retail
outlets, manufacturers, or be
funded by “various bodies”.
“We’re talking to the city
council about locating the
library at the Lyttelton Recreation
Centre, where it would
be operated by volunteers for
four or so hours each week for
issues and returns,” said Ms
Hindin.
So if you do have items you
don’t use – a sewing machine
or your granddad’s old drill
– or you have connections
to potential donors, Project
Lyttelton is asking you to get
in touch via its website, www.
