page today – the Timeball tower almost<br />
complete.<br />
Heritage New Zealand and others<br />
involved in getting this iconic part of<br />
Canterbury’s history back in shape deserve<br />
many accolades for the work they have put in.<br />
Rebuilding the complete station that was wrecked in the<br />
earthquakes wasn’t feasible. But there has been tremendous<br />
support for the $3 million it will cost to complete the tower<br />
restoration. It has been financed by Heritage NZ, Holcim,<br />
Landmark Inc, the Lottery Grants Board, Stout Trust and<br />
Parkinson Memorial Park Trust, the Mainland Foundation and<br />
community donations.<br />
There should be a big crowd at St Leornards Park today<br />
when unbeaten Sumner takes on Burnside in senior rugby (see<br />
