Flickr Commons Community Manager Jessamyn West sat down with Sarah Beaupre (Wakethesun), a longtime Flickr Commons enthusiast who has been finding and classifying ALL of the animals and birds across the 1.9 million+ historical images in Flickr Commons. This is a look into how archival curiosity, personal passion, and digital tools can intersect to create something meaningful for history, for community, and for the love of animals. To celebrate #PollinatorWeek, we partnered with 1% for the Planet and La Monarca Bakery and Café to highlight the essential role pollinators play in sustaining our ecosystems and food systems. From community-shared photos to policy news like the reintroduction of the #MonarchAct - we’re raising awareness around why these tiny workers matter and how we can all help protect them. 👉 Read the recap blog to explore the highlights, view pollinator photos from the #Flickr community, and learn more about how you can support pollinator protection: https://lnkd.in/gXvM9dzh

As we continue celebrating #PollinatorWeek, today we’re shining a spotlight on one of the most iconic: the monarch butterfly. Why monarchs? They’re not only beautiful, but essential to the health of our ecosystems and global food supply. Since the 1980s, monarch populations have declined by more than 99%, driven by habitat loss, climate change, and pesticide use. To address this, U.S. Representatives Jimmy Panetta and Salud Carbajal are reintroducing the MONARCH Act - a vital step toward restoring and protecting western monarch habitats. The bill proposes significant federal funding to conserve pollinator habitats across the western U.S., supporting monarchs and the many species that depend on the same ecosystems. At Flickr, we believe photography can drive awareness and action. Join us by sharing your monarch or pollinator photos in our Flickr for the Planet group and tagging #FlickrForThePlanet: https://lnkd.in/gUAYqxge 🌼 Bonus: A few participants will receive a surprise from our friends at La Monarca Bakery and Café, a fellow 1% for the Planet member committed to protecting its namesake - the monarch butterfly. #MonarchAct #OnePercentForThePlanet #LaMonarcaBakery #PollinatorsWeaveConnections Photo by Leslie~B on #Flickr

Today is Juneteenth - a day to honor the end of slavery in the U.S. and reflect on the continued fight for justice and equality. At Flickr, we recognize #Juneteenth as both a celebration of resilience and a call to action. It’s a time to listen, learn, and uplift the voices that shape our shared history. 📸 Explore how our community is documenting Juneteenth events across the country in our latest Flickr gallery: https://bit.ly/447uru3 Photo by Paul Goyette #FlickrCommunity #Juneteenth2025
