The key is to listen actively and show empathy, ensuring that everyone feels heard. When conflicts are approached with an open mindset, they can become opportunities for growth, collaboration, and problem-solving. Proactively addressing issues rather than letting them fester helps maintain a positive and productive work environment, preventing minor disagreements from escalating into larger, more disruptive problems. This approach ignites mutual respect and strengthens team dynamics over time.

Personality clashes occur when there is a disagreement or tension between individuals due to their distinctive traits, values, and behaviors. These clashes can create a negative and uncooperative atmosphere within a team, hindering collaboration and hindering the achievement of goals. However, it is important to note that personality clashes are not always negative. In fact, they can sometimes lead to innovation and growth within a team. When individuals with different perspectives and approaches come together, they can challenge each other's assumptions and push the boundaries of what is possible.

In a high pressure event execution, I prefer to encourage each team member to focus on what they themselves can do to be part of the solution rather than focusing on on what is being done to fuel the problem. This refocuses their efforts and energies on how they can make a situation better rather than only "vent" or complain.

Don't just rush in and start 'fixing' things by making managerial adjustments. Take a moment to actually assess the situation and understand why and how this dynamic came to be. It's a cliche, but managing large, intricate productions is very similar to captaining a ship--you can't turn on a dime and every directional shift you make needs to be calculated to consider both the immediate AND long-term impacts. Often times when situations become tense, the tension can bleed over into the emotional experience of others who aren't directly involved. It can even cloud the judgement of the executive producer or 'the captain'. Identify the 'why' and then address the issue at the source. Lead with curiosity & empathy and you'll diffuse the tension.
