Working on projects outside expertise is a great way to expand your knowledge. Growth is where there is discomfort. I’d start by breaking down the project to understand what I don’t know and then quickly bridge those gaps—whether that’s by reaching out to experts, doing some deep-dive research, or taking a crash course if needed. At the end of the day, it’s about staying proactive, resourceful, and not being afraid to ask the right questions.

Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone in 2025 Last year, I was pushed outside my comfort zone multiple times, and looking back, I am truly grateful. These experiences forced me to learn, adapt, and grow in unexpected ways. The key lesson? Don’t panic. Take a moment to assess the challenge and explore different ways to tackle it, there is always more than one solution. 1. See the big picture and break it into steps. 2. Engage cross-functional colleagues—collaboration drives better outcomes. 3. Seek experts willing to share knowledge— most people enjoy talking about their expertise and supporting others. 4. Be an active listener—value the time they invest in you. 5. Embrace the learning curve—the best way to learn is by doing. 😉

When I was asked to lead a culture transformation project, my 1st thought was -Where do I even start? Driving large-scale change felt like a different ballgame. Instead of stressing over what I didn’t know, I focused on what I did i.e. listening, involving right people & breaking things down into manageable steps. Reached out to leaders who had been through it, asked a ton of questions & built a team that covered my blind spots. I didn’t try to have all answers so stayed curious adjusted as I learned & kept bigger goal in sight. Excelling in something new isn’t about knowing it all;it’s about playing to one's strengths, being open to learning &pushing through uncertainty. In the end we made real impact & gained skills too.

Engajamento técnico é a palavra chave.

Great approach! I’d add that leveraging cross-functional collaboration can be a game-changer. Engaging colleagues from different departments not only fills knowledge gaps but also brings fresh perspectives. Another key tactic is applying transferable skills—even if the subject is new, problem-solving, leadership, or analytical thinking remain valuable assets. Recognising where your strengths fit builds confidence. Finally, embrace a growth mindset—view challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles. The best innovations often come from those willing to step outside their expertise. How do you tackle projects that push you beyond your comfort zone?
