I agree! Looking forward to the conversations

Kia ora! Is this mostly aimed at DCC or also ORC?

Kia ora Elliot, very interested to cover the regional council part of the elections too!

Awesome, see you on the 17th.

Thanks Devonia, I have another hui that evening (7-9pm) otherwise I would love to attend, but always happy to meet and chat about the regional council picture! DCC side of things is more crucial for cycling but always worth thinking about both:)

Looking forward to seeing you all there tomorrow evening.

@frstep - what is the best way to collect $$ from people? Basically Koha I think. I could try to set up something via the website / Stripe, or perhaps direct transfer to the SPOKES account (hence avoiding unnecessary fees)?

I’d be happy to take cash and transfer in.

And being Yours, there will be food available to buy

Kia ora Spokes members and friends, a reminder that tonight (17/06) we have a workshop at Yours (43 Moray place) to talk about the upcoming local elections from 18:30 until 20:30. If you are interested, add yourself to our event on the website, and looking forward to seeing you there!

My apologies, sounds like an interesting meeting. I will be at the sustainable tarras meeting at the Otago Museum opposing the planned open cast goldmine in Tarras. It starts at 1900 :frowning:

As i was unable to attend, can someone provide a summary of which candidates attended and a brief outline of those espousing bike friendliness.

Rather than a meet the candidates event this was us talking about ways to get involved with the election process to try to get better decisions for cycling.
Steve Walker attended more as a cyclist than a candidate, though it was fascinating to hear him talk about council decision making processes, which we will take on board when dealing with whatever council we get.

At this stage we decided to continue with the practice of putting questions to candidates (we’ll know who they are after nominations close on August 1). Broad outlines were discussed and we’ll have a wiki to continue developing the Qs. Other potential actions include attending meet the candidates events, leterwriting and particularly engaging in discussion with other electors. Also signing at least 5 new people up to cycling regularly before the next meeting (was that the 30 June? A bit early to try to avoid some people being unavailable) We talked about potential rewards for doing so. On my way home I realized that a pair of heated cycling gloves each might be apt.

Disclaimer- all the above from my memories of the meeting, in no way an official record and very much addressing Rob’s Q, not representing all the other thoughts and opinions expressed on other matters.

This is a great initiative! Keep going!

It would be good to track things i.e. did the candidates who supported cycling get elected?
